"I can't go…it scares the shit out of me and the fear sits in my inhale…and grows and grows and grows. I have wanted to exhale everything out of me since I was told, "I am somebody!" in the second grade."

Maslow studied exemplary people to figure out how to help his patients be as mentally healthy as possible because he believed that "the study of crippled, stunted, immature, and unhealthy specimens can yield only a cripple psychology and a cripple philosophy."  He developed a theory of a pyramid of needs in which lower level needs must be met before higher level needs can emerge.

The NeuroKitchen Arts Collective takes Maslow's ideas and turns them into a story of a boy dealing with his father's job loss.  The ensemble takes each level; physiological, safety, love & belonging, esteem, self-actualization and creates choral harmonies, rock-hop, ballads, and bucket drumming which stir into the stories of climbing and falling through the pyramid.

"For some reason, it seems that you WANT me to drown.  Is my love of plastic illusions and lies destroying your hard work?  I know you admire those ancient civilizations - it's one of the things I like about you - but this is America, baby.  We gots to get paid and beautified."

NeuroKitchen is an ensemble of young artists who along with their directors, work together to create unexpected theater with the expectation that developing virtuoso artists develops virtuoso human beings.

"If you plan on being anything less than you are capable of being, you will probably be unhappy all the days of your life."
- Abraham Maslow

"If I were dropped out of a plane into the ocean and told the
nearest land was a thousand miles away, I'd still swim.
And I'd despise the one who gave up."
- Abraham Maslow

"A first-rate soup is more creative than a second-rate painting."
